VIOLENCE AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE KEEPS INCREASING

By: Maria Jose Rojas

Hundreds of people in Madison, Wisconsin, hit the streets after a nineteen-year-old boy, Tony Robinson, was killed by an officer, on friday night. Robinson, an African American youth, was not armed when he was shot by a 12-year department white veteran, Matt Kenny, who had used deadly force before, shooting and killing a man in 2007.

Apparently, Robinson was causing trouble that night, and someone had called the police to report disturbance at a Madison residence. The guy was not only, in and out of traffic and dodging cars, but also, he “tried to strangle another person”, said the police. The officer arrived at what Robinson’s family says was the house of the boy’s best friend; he heard something inside the apartment and forced his way in. Then, according to the police, Tony attacked the officer and he shot him. The teen died later in the hospital.

Robinson’s mother was devastated “My son has never been a violent person, never.” she said.  However, the police paint a different picture of her son. After the incident, loads of banners took the streets of the city, and people sang “Black lives matter.” As well as, "Who do we trust? No one, no one!” It seems that a lot of people are tired of the indiscriminated use of violence against black people; evidently, there is still a few that think that one color is superior to the other, which is something ridiculous and unbelievable to happen in the 21st century.
