Teacher’s Day at Pachas

By: Maria Camila Calderon 10B

Last Friday, our dear school had the honor of celebrating Teacher’s Day: an every year tradition and celebration. We are blessed for having such great professors in our lives, but since we are accustomed to their abilities and attitude, they never really receive our appropriate gratitude. However, just in this day every hall is filled with a running student chasing after her teacher in order for her to give him a little gift. Just in this day we see all the teachers going around with hands and arms full of gifts. And just in this day we let them rest a little from our daily craziness. As you may already know, this special celebration is organized by the Ninth grade students; thus, this year everything was planned by the Prom 2017. Let’s have a tour through those five hours of celebration.

At first, every teacher arrived at our school dressed in beautiful and elegant clothes; they all come prepared for showing their beauty on this day. Since it is their day off, they immediately go to the cafeteria for a “party” thrown by the Ninth graders. The theme this year was a “Beach Party”, full of flowers, sand and music. Everything was meticulously decorated and the girls were all dressed with exotic shorts; you could even find some nice lifeguards. Different songs of Salsa, Vallenato, and Merengue were played, and the whole school wanted to sneak in to catch a glance of everything. Everyone left the party with a smile on their face, and a nice red gift.

Then, the community had a meaningful mass with different signs and images. The choir was directed by Guillermo Cubillos, and composed by Fourth graders who had just had their First Holy Communion. Besides, there was not a single teacher who had to worry about the behavior of their students. I would like to say that it was because we all behaved as angels, but is was basically because Tenth graders took the responsibility of taking care of all the students. At last, a video was shown by the organizers, displaying our dear professors with a little touch of humor.

We hope that you enjoyed every minute of your wonderful day, and we congratulate the Ninth graders for their work. Never forget that a true and fought for gift is worth more than anything expected. We all embrace your effort and singularity; we hope you do as well.

The guy behind the little red car

By: Laura Salazar

The past month Mayor Petro decided on having another day without car, for many this was a terrible situation because getting to their final destinations that day seemed impossible. For others this day was an open door for new ideas and Rodrigo Arias was part of this second group of people.  Our religion teacher was extremely positive about the day without car; he arrived at school with a little red car; this surprised all the staff of the school. If you want to know more about it, keep reading.

How did you get the car?

I was planning to give a car to my daughter for her birthday. I was looking for something close looking to Montoya’s car. Alter a while looking around we saw that all the cars were with battery and we thought that it was really dumb the battery system as we wanted something that needed more work. At that time Juan Pablo Montoya was the James of today, the red car was very famous because of him so when we saw that red simple car we knew that was the one we wanted to buy.

Why did you decide on bringing it to school for the day without car?

Well, after we moved from our house to our new apartment, we just left it in the parking lot of the building and as everyone was always commenting on it i thought: What would happen if I take it to work the day without car? After some doubts I decided it was a good idea to ride the car for school.

How was the experience of riding that car for work?

I actually was really embarrassed, people looked at me as if I were crazy and how could they not? Alter a while I got over the embarrassment, but still didn’t want anyone to see the car, however everyone saw it at school. As the car seemed to be liked by a lot of people, I decided on taking it to school for the next day without car.

How was this second day without car for you?

I think this second day was a good day for all of us in the community as I told my students a lesson about this day. That day I told them that it was a day WITHOUT car, but it was a day WITH a big open-mind for new ideas of how we can move around the city, of new ideas of how we can change the city.

What is your invitation for the students, teachers and staff of all the school?

I think everyone in the school should always have in mind that a day WITHOUT something is a day WITH something we haven’t been using for a while.  The day without car is a day for you to think of all the possible ideas to make this city a much better place to live in. No matter how crazy these ideas could seem in your head, don’t keep quiet, share them with the world, you never know if it could really end up being a big help to us.
