JUAN GUILLERMO CUADRADO: FIRST COLOMBIAN BEING CHAMPION IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE

By: Maria Jose Rojas 10B

On Sunday morning Chelsea won the Premier League Title by beating Crystal Palace 1-0, plus Juan Guillermo Cuadrado became the first Colombian winning this tittle.

The excellent player, who on the 2 of February 2015 was announced to be a part of the blue team, was the first Colombian winning such a title in the Premier League. The amazing 26 year old sportsman who was born in Antioquia, was a starting player; however, he was substituted by John Obi Mikel in the minute 45. Moreover, Eden Hazard´s goal in minute 45 gave Chelsea their first championship win since 2010. With this title, the blue team adds its fifth triumph in the British League (they won in 1955, 2005, 2006 and 2010).

Cuadrado´s football career began in 2008 with Independiente Medellin where he scored 2 goals. Then, in 2009 he became part of Udinese, an Italian football team, where sadly he didn’t participate much; and that’s the reason why he left. Later in 2012, Cuadrado was signed by Fiorentina, a professional Italian football club, where he debuted. He scored 20 goals and did more than 80 assistances. Finally, in 2015 Juan Guillermo signed with Chelsea for a four-and-a-half-year deal for an initial fee of £23.3 million.

By:Maria Paula Pulido 10B

Last Monday May 11th, the Colombian Football federation announced the possible list of players that will debut in the Copa America: one of the most important world football championships, which will take place in Chile between June and July of this year.

Colombia is playing at group C, which also includes Venezuela, Brazil and Peru. Its first game, against Venezuela, is the 14th of June and its last game will take place at Temuco the 21st of June, against Peru. The permanence of our country in the tournament depends on the results obtained in these games.

The tentative list of players is the following:

Goalkeepers: David Ospina (Arsenal, Inglaterra) Camilo Vargas (Nacional) Cristian Bonilla (Equidad)

Guard: Camilo Zúñiga (Nápoles, Italia) Santiago Arias (PSV Eindhoven, Holanda) Carlos Valdés (Nacional, Uruguay) Cristian Zapata (Milán, Italia) Éder Álvarez Balanta (River Plate, Argentina) Jeison Murillo (Granada, España) Francisco Meza (Santa Fe) Johan Mojica (Valladolid, España) Pablo Armero (Flamengo, Brasil) Pedro Franco (Besiktas, Turquia) Darwin Andrade (Standard de Lieja, Bélgica)

Winger Abel Aguilar (Toulouse, Francia) Alexánder Mejía (Monterrey, México) Carlos Alberto Sánchez (Aston Villa, Inglaterra) Edwin Cardona (Monterrey, México) Edwin Valencia (Santos, Brasil) Fredy Guarín (Ínter, Italia) James Rodríguez (Real Madrid, España) Juan Fernando Quintero (Porto, Portugal) Juan Guillermo Cuadrado (Chelsea, Inglaterra) Víctor Ibarbo (Roma, Italia)

Forward Radamel Falcao Garcia (Manchester United, Inglaterra) Carlos Bacca (Sevilla, España) Jackson Martínez (Porto, Portugal) Teófilo Gutierrez (River Plate, Argentina) Luis Fernando Muriel (Sampdoria, Italia) Andrés Rentería (Santos Laguna, México)

This will be a very competitive championship, especially because it includes four out of the ten most expensive players of the world; Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria from Argentina, Neymar Jr from Brazil and James Rodriguez from Colombia; all of them evaluated in about 325 million euros. We are all looking forward to this important international event and we hope that Colombia has an amazing performance.
