The sports girl

“Never give up, do what you love and keep your chin up."

Sports are very important for everyone´s life and they are also the base to a healthy mind and body. Every day, people exercise for reasons such as: being thin, having a great body, losing stress, being mentally and physically healthy, and so on. However, I know an incredible person, one of my favorite persons in the world (I must say), whose life has been founded on sports or, in other words, in physical activities. This girl is called Magdalena Saenz, a 20 year old student who has become an inspiration for many people in the past few years.

This sports life began when Magdalena was a kid at PACHAS. Her favorite class was Physical Education with Sonia, who made very fun interactive classes. As a result of this, she decided to enter an extracurricular activity, which took place at the end of the school day. There was football, volleyball, basketball, cheers and more, but she preferred…ballet. The first few moths It was okay, but then she got bored and left the classes. Few years later she started loving football as a result of her father, who started playing with her daily. She also found some guy friends that, as she, liked football and really admired her because of the perfect way she played. After this, her interest in football began to grow, therefore she asked her mother to sign her up in the football school team. However, because of the few people who inscribed and the indiscipline of the team, it was impossible. In fourth grade her father found a football club named Inter, where she trained during three years and was able to compete against other feminine football clubs. Suddenly the club was closed, and thus she needed to find somewhere else to train; she could not stop playing football. They found a new club called Besser, in which, after other three more years of training, the “Seleccion Colombia Femenina Sub 17” convened her, at the young age of 15 years old. After having a serious talk and discussing critically, her parents told her that there were other priorities at the moment, such as studying.

After all she began searching for universities that had the sport's science carrier, and finally she got to know Loras, where she is nowadays still studying. Besides her career, she was very interested in the college's football team; hence she got in touch with the trainer and got accepted on the team. At first it was what she expected it to be, but as time passed the members of the team began to bully Magdalena, making her feel useless and excluded. Because of this terrible event, she took the athletics path, talked with the trainer and entered as a novice runner; however, a year later the trainer noticed that Magdalena had a real talent in running, so she began competing. in the second year of competition, she entered to the Cross Country team, then went to the nationals and won the 120th place, at regionals she won the 17th place, and finally at the Conference competition she got the 4th place. After this she improved her timing and went to the “IN DOORS” competition where she won the 5000meters, and the “OUTDOORS” Drake relays competition, where she had a record of the 10,000meters. After all of this she got through nationals and went on to win the 12th place, which is extremely good. She also received other recognitions like: “Underclassman Athlete of the Year”, “Most Valuable Track and Field Athlete”, and moreover “Sport Academic Honors”.

In the last year, she won the first place in Cross Country and got “The athlete of the week” three consecutive weeks. She entered to the Top 5 academic excellence, commitment to excellence and the most valuable runner. All of this was perfect, but nothing lasts forever. Considering that her training was very tough and one of her main goals was to win everything, she got a lesion on her hip that made her stop running for about 2 months. It was very frustrating not being able to run and not doing what her passion was, however, she is now getting better and starting to run again.

This year will be full of emotion, excitement, and probably tears in our favorite sports. During every month we will be able to watch tournaments of any kind of sports, and 24 hours per day will be full of football, tennis, basketball, and many others. Talking about our country and due to the great performance our football team “La Selección Colombia” gave last year in the World Cup, this year our hearts are full of hope and full of desires of victory. We are not only facing the playoffs of the World Cup Russia 2016, but we are also supporting our team in “La Copa America” which will be taking place in Chile during the month of July, and with Falcao on the field I believe that we are all very excited. Moreover, one of the greatest events of sports in our continent will be taking place in Toronto, Canada during the months of July and August: the “Juegos Panamericanos”. Also, our favorite tennis open, basketball championships, Colombian football, and many other sports will leave us all attached to the screen. This will be a great year for new athletes, our favorite ones, and for us: the fans!

The sports life has been very active during these two month of 2015. In the tennis world, we lived the Australian Open, one of the most important tournaments of the ATP, all through the month of January. In this tournament the male winner was Novak Djokovic, and the female winner was Serena Williams, both staying at first place in the world ranking. Also right now, the tennis players are representing their countries in the Fed Cup, the ATP Brasil Open, and the Memphis Open, which present many doors to new tennis players. Furthermore, last February first, the finale of the National Football League (NFL), best known as the Super Bowl's 49th edition, was played between the Patriots and the Seahawks, with the victory of the Patriots. In the football world, the “Suramericanos sub 20” had their final game last 7th of February with the victory of Argentina 2-1 against Uruguay, and with the victory of Colombia 3-0 against Brazil, leaving our country in second place and giving it the ticket for the World Cup sub 20. Also, the “Mundial de Clubes” was played with the victory of the “Real Madrid” against “San Lorenzo”, and the most important football award the “Balon the Oro” was given to Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal. In Colombia, last year's champion of the “Liga Postobon", “Santa Fe”, restated its position by winning the “Super Liga” against “Atletico Nacional”, and right now the teams from all around the country are playing the “Copa Aguila”. In addition, in the European football, the “Champions League”, the “Premier League”, the “Liga BBVA”, and the “Copa del Rey” are challenging the best teams of the world.

This will be a great year for sports, you shall not miss a second!
